What will the new facility look like?

The upcoming facility will cover an impressive 1.3 million square feet and incorporate advanced automation to significantly boost operational efficiency and customer service capabilities.

Situated at the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal, the site is scheduled to open in 2029.

M&S anticipates that the construction phase will generate over 2,000 jobs, with around 1,000 permanent positions available once operations begin.

These roles will encompass a range of positions, from driving and logistics to technical roles such as automation technicians.

Automation technologies to be utilized in the facility include:

• An automated pallet crane for handling long-life ambient products
• A high-speed shuttle system for sorting and storing stock
• A hands-free picking solution that loads items directly onto store-ready delivery cages

These technological advancements will optimize operations throughout the M&S supply chain, improving its ability to restock efficiently.

Key project collaborators include Prologis and TGW.
